Chinese shoppers rescue UK retailers this Christmas

Chinese shoppers are reportedly boosting the balance sheets of UK retailers this Christmas, as they spend an average of £1000 compared to a mere £70 from average customers.

The amount of Chinese shoppers purchasing goods from UK retailers is so high, that some stores such as Selfridges in Manchester have learnt Mandarin in order to assist customers.

Speaking to Sky News, a sales manager for the store claimed that they have seen a rise in customers from China, so it made sense for staff to learn some Mandarin.

This news could be interpreted as a sign of China’s growing middle income bracket.
