The FTSE 100 closed above the 6,400 mark for the first time in more than five years on Tuesday, assisted by strong company reports.
Xstrata was the biggest riser on the day, with a 7.2 percent gain following better than expected results.
Standard Chartered was also a good gainer, with a 3 percent increase in its share price following its tenth year of increased profit.
At the market’s close, the FTSE 100 was up by over 80 points to end the day at6,431.95.
