The FTSE 100 reached a 17 month high of 6,047 on Thursday as a result of improved market sentiment following the avoision of the ‘fiscal cliff’ in the US which would have resulted in tax hikes and reductions in spending within the country.
According to Reuters, the index edged lower during the morning trade, but managed to continue its rally following positive jobs data that emerged from the US.
Next was the biggest riser on the day.
