The FTSE 100 roared past the 6,300 mark on Tuesday, following a 24 point gain to reach 6,308 during afternoon trading. The index did not manage to finish the day past the 6,300 mark but it was very close at 6,294.
Soaring past the 6,300 mark was the first time the index had done so since May 2008.
