Nintendo blames ‘lack of hit titles’ for 3DS failure

In explaining the short-term failure of the 3DS to investors, Nintendo has looked to blame a lack of ‘hit titles’. During the most recent quarter ending June 2011, Nintendo noted that they had few other ‘hit titles’ than the new Legend of Zelda game in 3D.

They claimed that ‘as a result’ of the lack of hit titles, sales for the 3DS were 0.71m units and 3DS software sales hit 4.53m units during the quarter.

Although many analysts across the industry have continuously noted that these are testing times for the dedicated portable gaming sector as devices  from Apple provide similar functionality with games costing a fraction of the price.
