Having completed the first investment round in 2011, the Company built its first mobile performance stage, preparing for a London launch in Spring 2012. Beer & Partners then raised additional funds from a syndicate of private investors to bolster the take-to-market budget and support the launch. This investment was under EIS. The launch took place in the Docklands site of one of the Company's shareholders, which resulted in coverage on NBC and other news networks as well as a full pipeline of serious enquiries from the UK and overseas. The Managing Associate for the project has since joined the board of the Company, bringing his relevant background in the design and build sector and considerable experience in growing early stage businesses.

MANUFACTURER OF SMALL SCALE RENEWABLE ENERGY PRODUCTS

This diversified manufacturer of small scale renewable energy products came to Beer & Partners in mid- January 2012, seeking to complete its latest £1.3m round of fundraising having £700,000 already committed from existing and new investors. Investments from two Beer Investors were secured with one agreeing terms within three weeks of meeting and a second within one week. In fact this round could have been oversubscribed by almost a quarter.

STEM CELL TREATMENT FOR CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM DISEASES

This business has recently received $3.8m investment from a respected strategic pharma industry insider. A further £1.5m on the same terms and now being sought will enable the company to advance its product into human trials for the neurodegenerative disease Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS, or Lou Gehrig’s disease). The client has protected IP covering purification of its adult stem cell product and its use in numerous diseases of the brain and spine requiring repair of damaged nerves. As the product and repair process is entirely natural occurrence in the body, regulatory authorities indicate low concern about potential safety issues. Investors will hold publicly listed shares and can expect an exit upon conclusion of Phase I/II clinical studies at increased valuations. A major licensee or company acquisition is expected to emerge at that stage. Favourable price inflections are expected at the: filing of IND; reporting of study results, and announcement of license or acquisition.

LEADING EDGE SKIN CARE AND MEDICAL TECHNOLOGY Bringing total funds raised to £211,000

A group of Beer Investors have invested alongside both existing and other new investors into this spin out from St Andrews University. The company has developed and launched a range of products that allow treatment of commonly occurring skin cancers to be carried in the primary care arena rather than within specialist dermatology clinics. This funding round will take the business into profitability and allow the company to roll out its technology into other common skin treatment areas.

CONSTRUCTION AND OPERATION OF WIND FARMS

After presenting at our Investment Fair in November 2010 investment interested was confirmed at an early stage but was not committed until the planning permissions were granted for the sites in early 2012.

RENEWABLE ENERGY SECTOR INVESTMENT TO SUPPORT MAJOR INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT

The Company having been active in the renewable energy space for several years, the Company sought additional capital to support the implementation of development plans with a major industrial partner. Beer & Partners raised additional funds from a syndicate of private investors to support this objective, which qualified under EIS. The biomass and general renewable sector remain of great interest to investors, however key to attracting investment is being able to differentiate amongst many such projects. Beer & Partners worked with management on this, presenting the opportunity through both its network and at several investor events to complete the target round of over £200k.

THE FIRST MULTI-SERVICE COMPARISON WEBSITE IN ALL LATIN-AMERICA

This second round funding provided by a single investor in this first multi-service price comparison website in Latin-America where Internet penetration is as low as 30% but rising fast. This follows on from the first round of £250,000 in which two other Beer investors participated. The project has now rolled from Argentina into Brazil and a third more substantial round of funding is planned for autumn 2012 prior to a VCT round anticipated in 18 months time to facilitate the rapid expansion of this enterprise across all Latin-America.

HIGHLY EFFECTIVE DRUG PORTFOLIO - INFLAMMATION AND CANCER Bringing total funds raised to £85,000

Beer Investors made a very useful contribution to the convertible loan fund-raising for this extremely tightly run Southampton based drug development company. The loan will convert at a discount in the forthcoming major investment round. The Company is developing proprietary drugs that have best-in-class potential to treat inflammatory disease and cancer by targeting epigenetic mechanisms and lipid kinase signalling. They have four drugs in their pipeline. The lead candidate has entered formal pre-clinical development stage on schedule. It is likely to be of relevance to treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. Investors will most likely enjoy an exit through big pharma acquisition(s) prior to approval. The highly experienced, efficient and proficient management team is a very attractive feature of this investment.

We raised £100k for this profitable and going concern which in turn triggered 2x matching finance. Funding is to enable the company to rapidly grow and to stay in a leadership position. This company is a global leader in providing software systems for pharma companies to monitor their products in use after they have been approved for marketing. They are tailored so that they are user friendly for either the physician or the patient entering the data. They already have two global pharma companies using their systems. This is a new market converting data systems from paper to electronic data capture.

INDOOR REVOLVING SKI SLOPES Bringing total funds raised to £571,900

Second round financing for this company which has the UK rights to a Dutch indoor ski slope which works on a treadmill principle. With variable speed and elevation and not requiring sub-zero temperatures these slopes have considerable advantages over snow domes and provide an excellent training venue, as well as being great exercise. This funding round will enable the company to build three further sites and then be self-financing.
