Smith & Williamson Backs British Angel Investing

19 December 2011

With Government‘s recent announcement of new enhanced tax breaks to stimulate angel investing in UK’s start-up businesses, the British Business Angels Association, UK trade body for angel and early stage investing, is pleased to announce that Smith & Williamson, the leading accountancy and investment management firm, with 11 principal offices in the UK and Ireland, has become a new sponsor.

Smith & Williamson will align their extensive experience in advising both the investment and entrepreneurial community with BBAA’s role in growing and supporting the angel market across the UK.  Notably Smith & Williamson will offer access to their expert advice, information and downloadable resources for entrepreneurs about how to successfully grow businesses and utilise investment. They will also be hosting a programme of events aimed at existing and new potential angel investors, focusing on a range of topics related to the investment process.

Guy Rigby, Director and Head of Entrepreneurs at Smith & Williamson, well known commentator on small business issues and author of the recently published “From Vision to Exit” said : “We are pleased to be teaming up with the BBAA and look forward to contributing to the central role that business angels play in financing early stage businesses. Given the current funding environment and the potential for tax efficiency using the EIS,  ‘Entrepreneur Britain’ will increasingly depend on this kind of investment.”

Guy Rigby will also be leading a panel of high growth entrepreneurs at the forthcoming BBAA Winter Investment Workshop on 26th January 2012, hosted by NESTA.

Anthony Clarke, Chair of BBAA said: “We are delighted to have Smith & Williamson on board as one of our sponsors. They have a wealth of experience to support BBAA’s work as the voice of angel investing and notably at a time when the Government’s new measures offer a vital opportunity to encourage more individuals to invest in the growth of small businesses”.
